From One Survivor to Another
Woman stole 2,000 library books to sell on Internet
Lady, you are not helping California libraries at all.
In exchange for pleading guilty to one count of felony burglary, Nater is set to receive probation when sentenced April 25. She has agreed to pay $7,600 in restitution, stay away from public libraries, and not use any internet accounts such as ebay, Craigslist, or Amazon, according to prosecutors.
All summer while we were preparing for our library move and temporary downsizing, we gave away deaccessioned books. Some of them were ancient donations, but some were pretty new and nice, but didn’t have great circ stats. This made us extra popular, especially with Shopping Cart Guy.
Now, in the new location, it kills me when someone comes in and asks, “Where are the free books?”
Look, lady, they’re all free. Welcome to the library.
Ever since we switched from being a county library to a city, there are people so angry with us that they purposefully steal. At least that’s what we think - there’s never been this much thievery before. It’s frustrating.
my version of hell has a special place reserved for people who steal library books. that is just…beyond evil. :(
