berryfemme asked: tumblr proposed the removal of sites that actively encourage self destructive behaviours, which sounds like the opposite of a community where people with eating disorders encourage each other to eat. it gets very confusing because there is a community on livejournal called 'pro ana' which used to be pro ana, but then they didnt purchase a rename token but turned into a recovery focused space. the other day before the proposal some ed blogs i follow were trying to get brutal-bones' blog removed b
(cont.) ecause she was encouraging her followers to be anorexic. that’s the kind of blog tumblr will be presumably taking down, not the blogs of people who are struggling but post things of a morbid nature without the intent of glamorizing diseases. idk i just feel like i trust tumblr isn’t going to be censoring loads of mentally ill teenagers because the ed community have been fighting for months, years even to get tumblr to remove these wretched pro ana blogs and tumblr has been like no ‘free speech’ and now they’re finally listening and people are saying it’s a bad thing. :/
I feel like I can’t really say much because I am not actively a part of any of these communities (anymore), so I was just going off of what I have seen on my dash. From experience I have noticed that tumblr is sometimes really…extreme about their free speech stuff, almost to the point of ridiculously allowing damaging and directly harmful things (like threats of violence, etc). So I can see where you’re coming from here.
Mostly I’m just concerned that sites that are “pro-____” but not explicitly encouraging EDs will get hit by this rule change.
