Obama's Transgender Nanny's Life Threatened in Indonesia →
The transgender woman who served as Barack Obama’s nanny for two years while he lived with his mother in Indonesia, is now in serious danger of losing her life.
She has been attacked repeatedly by Indonesian soldiers, including having her hair shaved off and being burned with cigarettes. Since discovering a transgender friend murdered, she has begun presenting as male in an attempt to avoid further violence.
The White House has so far remained silent on the danger the President’s former caretaker is in. Hopefully that will change.
And it almost goes without saying that the original AP article is extremely patronizing and they do not attempt at all to use the appropriate terminology, so trigger warning if you want to click through.
(Note that this links to an article on the Advocate, which is worded fine. The AP source mentioned above, however, is completely terrible with its cissexism.)
