some background for that last post

  • Taiwan is not recognized by the United States as a legit country
  • the U.N. does recognize Taiwan either— in fact, they cannot send their own representative
  • Taiwan has been under the spectre of communist/political occupation for decades now, often with the threat of nuclear retaliation literally five miles across to the mainland
  • A few years ago Barack Obama confused Taiwan with Thailand— this is not uncommon in the west, it actually happens quite often in the media. And in conversations with other people in the U.S. they rarely know Taiwan even exists
  • Taiwan is not officially named Taiwan, it’s the “Republic of China”

so when i see Jeremy Lin stuff, with Taiwan specifically mentioned it is amazing
