i’ve seen a post going around urging photosensitive people to block “[.]gif” with tumblr savior to clear gifs off their dashboard. If you’re actually super photosensitive, like i am, i strongly recommend blocking gifs from your browser entirely!

If you’re using Firefox:

Type about:config into the URL bar and hit enter, then search image.animation_mode in the menu that comes up and change “normal” to “none”. all gif images will load only the first frame!

If you’re using Internet Explorer:

Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced. Under “Multimedia”, uncheck the box that says “Play animations in web pages”.

If you’re using Chrome:

Download Pause! Pause! Pause!, an extension that freezes gif images until you click on them.

Or get Stop animations, an extension that allows you to freeze gif images by pressing the ESC key. (This works in Firefox by default!)

If you’re using Opera:

Press F12 and uncheck the box that says Enable GIF/SVG animation.

If you have Adblock installed on any of these browsers:

Right click on the Adblock icon, and go to Options » Add Your Own Filters » Type “*.gif” and add the rule.
